Australian music technology company OZBEAT AI has taken another step towards building trusted AI music infrastructure, progressing its C2PA Conformance Program application and engaging in technical discussions with Jeremy Uzan, Director of AI & Advanced Technology at Universal Music Group (UMG) and Co-Chair of the C2PA Audio Task Force.
As a Contributor Member of the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) and a Full Member of DDEX, OZBEAT AI is working to connect structured AI disclosure, content provenance verification and music industry interoperability.
These developments mark an important milestone in the company’s efforts to bring greater transparency and accountability to AI-generated and AI-assisted music.
Industry Dialogue on AI Music Transparency
OZBEAT AI recently held a technical discussion with Jeremy Uzan, Director of AI & Advanced Technology at Universal Music Group and Co-Chair of the C2PA Audio Task Force, to share its progress in structured AI music disclosure and provenance verification.
The discussion explored how AI contribution declarations and C2PA Content Credentials could complement each other, particularly in providing more transparent information about how music is created and processed.
OZBEAT AI introduced its AAM 2.0 framework, a Structured AI Disclosure Model designed to describe the nature and extent of human and AI involvement across different stages of music creation.
Rather than relying on a simple distinction between AI-generated and human-created music, AAM 2.0 provides a more granular approach to disclosure.
The framework distinguishes between musical works and sound recordings, allowing AI involvement to be declared across creative and production roles, including composition, lyrics, production, vocals, instrumentation and audio engineering.
The discussion also covered the potential role of C2PA provenance information in supporting and evaluating these declarations.
Connecting Structured AI Disclosure with Content Provenance
A central focus of OZBEAT AI’s ongoing work is the relationship between AI disclosure and verifiable content provenance.
C2PA provides a technical framework for recording and verifying information about the origin and history of digital content through Content Credentials.
AAM 2.0 addresses a complementary challenge: how to describe human and AI contributions to music in a structured, consistent and machine-readable way.
While C2PA can provide verifiable evidence about certain aspects of content creation and processing, AAM 2.0 enables more detailed declarations of AI involvement across musical works and sound recordings.
OZBEAT AI is also developing a Declaration–Provenance Consistency Assessment approach, designed to compare structured AAM declarations with available C2PA provenance information.
This approach aims to identify where declarations and provenance evidence are consistent, where differences may exist and where additional information may be required.
Importantly, provenance verification does not independently establish the accuracy of every declared creative contribution. Instead, it provides an additional layer of evidence that can support more transparent and accountable AI music workflows.
Progressing Through the C2PA Conformance Program
Alongside these technical discussions, OZBEAT AI has formally initiated the C2PA Conformance Program process for its C2PA validator implementation.
The company has completed the required intake process and prepared validation evidence covering three audio formats: MP3, WAV and FLAC.
The implementation targets C2PA Specification 2.2, with validation capabilities covering embedded Content Credentials, digital signatures, content integrity, certificate trust evaluation and associated provenance information.
The Conformance Program provides a formal assessment pathway for products implementing C2PA specifications.
OZBEAT AI’s participation represents an important step towards independently assessed validation capabilities and greater interoperability with the broader C2PA ecosystem.
The company’s validator remains subject to the program’s assessment and approval process, and no conformance certification has yet been granted.
Bridging C2PA, AAM 2.0 and DDEX
OZBEAT AI’s broader objective is to connect three complementary capabilities within the AI music ecosystem:
Declare — Structured AI Disclosure
Through AAM 2.0, music creators and platforms can describe human and AI contributions in a structured format, distinguishing between musical works and sound recordings.
Verify — Provenance and Consistency Assessment
Through C2PA Content Credentials and declaration–provenance consistency assessment, platforms can validate available provenance evidence and evaluate its relationship with declared AI contributions.
Exchange — Music Industry Interoperability
Through alignment with established music industry data exchange practices, including DDEX, relevant AI disclosure information can be made available for integration into distribution, rights management and other downstream workflows.
The objective is not to replace existing music identifiers, metadata standards or rights management systems.
Instead, OZBEAT AI aims to introduce an additional layer of structured AI transparency that can work alongside established industry infrastructure.
Building Trust in the AI Music Ecosystem
As AI-generated and AI-assisted music becomes increasingly common, the music industry faces growing challenges in understanding how content is created, what information can be independently verified and how that information can be exchanged between platforms.
AI detection technologies can provide useful signals, but detection alone cannot fully explain the creative process or establish the provenance of a recording.
OZBEAT AI believes a more comprehensive approach requires structured disclosure, verifiable provenance and interoperable data exchange.
By bringing these capabilities together, the company aims to support music creators, technology platforms, distributors and rights holders in navigating the evolving AI music landscape.
The company’s continued engagement with C2PA and DDEX reflects its commitment to developing practical, standards-aligned solutions for responsible AI music creation and distribution.
Further developments in OZBEAT AI’s provenance verification and structured AI disclosure technologies will be announced as the project progresses.
